After two halted attempts of lifting caused by Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis, Bond have successfully and safely carried out the lifting of the main footbridge on behalf of Buckingham Group which spanned over the busy Oystermouth Road and links the City Centre with the LC2 Complex.
Works were carried out under a possession on the evening of Sunday the 23rd of February in to the early hours of Monday morning granted by Swansea council and handed back early ensuring no delay.
The 170ton tandem lift was carried out by two cranes namely a Libeherr LTM 1750-9.1 and the other Libeherr LTM 11000DS that took ten hours to rig and de-rig with eleven low loaders in tow to transport the necessary equipment. A third crane assisted the rigging of the 1000te Liebherr.
Peter Smith, Director had this to say:
‘Weeks and weeks of meticulous planning had gone in to the lifting of this large 170ton post-tensioned concrete section of bridge which subsequently took fifteen minutes to lift and place down at the prepared lay down area. It’s testimony to everyone involved from City & County of Swansea, Buckingham Group, Ainscough Crane Hire, Bingham Hall Associates, Amberon Ltd and ourselves all coming together to ensure the safe removal of this section of the bridge.'
